MOVE YOUR STUFF
If you suffer storm damage such as a hole in your roof, skylights, windows or walls, the first thing you should do is move your furniture out of reach of the damage. Dealing with the fallout of a storm is stressful enough. Do yourself a favor and salvage your stuff first.

CONTAIN THE LEAK
If water is leaking (or pouring) into your house you’ll want to grab buckets, empty trashcans, large mixing bowls – whatever you can find – to contain the invading water and limit additional damage to the interior of your home. Also grab plenty of towels to help keep the area dry and switch the containers frequently to prevent overflow.

COVER YOUR ROOF WITH A TARP (OR BOOK EMERGENCY SERVICE!)

DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE
If the damage is eligible for an insurance claim, you will need to show proof of the damage to your insurance provider. Take pictures of the damage, as well as anything and everything that has been ruined because of the storm. This includes furniture, interiors, electronics, etc, that were damaged by the invading water inside your home, as well as any additional damage outside the home, such as flower pots broken or chipped by hail, etc.
